Dear customers,

The precursor to modern contact lenses was invented in Kiel: in 1946, visionary and inventor Heinrich Wöhlk tested the world's first dimensionally stable contact lens, which he had developed himself, on himself. In doing so, he not only laid the foundation for modern contact lens technology, but also laid the foundation for today's Wöhlk Contactlinsen GmbH.

The founder's thirst for knowledge, wealth of ideas, and passion remain deeply embedded in our company's DNA to this day. Wöhlk is a renowned pioneer in the development of novel and compatible materials, innovative manufacturing processes, and high-quality products. The name Wöhlk stands not only for exceptional quality, state-of-the-art technology, and innovative solutions for better vision, but also for “Made in Germany.” This is because research, development, and production take place at the company's headquarters in Schönkirchen near Kiel, which houses a research laboratory, a development department, and the company's own contact lens studio. Wöhlk benefits not only from the results of its own research projects, but also from decades of experience and close cooperation with ophthalmologists and opticians. The shared vision: high-quality contact lenses for the best possible vision and maximum comfort.

Under the motto “My lens. Fits perfectly,” around 130 highly qualified and specialized professionals, led by Managing Director Hiroko Aikawa, work not only to meet customer expectations for their products, but to exceed them time and again – from engineers and physicists to chemists and software developers.

Since 2020, Wöhlk Contactlinsen GmbH has been a subsidiary of the Japanese contact lens manufacturer SEED Co., Ltd. This international cooperation has strengthened the North German contact lens manufacturer's position in the international market and expanded its portfolio at the same time: While Wöhlk is an expert in customized contact lenses, SEED Contact Lens focuses on the manufacture of daily disposable lenses. In addition to Wöhlk, the SEED Group also includes the companies Ultravision (UK) and Sensimed (CH).

Together, they offer a comprehensive contact lens portfolio that provides the right solution for almost every vision problem.

Wöhlk achieved a real milestone in the company's history in the fall of 2024 with the receipt of the MDR certificate. This enables the contact lens manufacturer from Schönkirchen to once again launch new products on the market.

NEW MATERIAL: VITAFILCON C WITH UV PROTECTION CLASS 1

Dear opticians,

When fitting contact lenses, there is one thing you always keep firmly in mind: your customers’ eye health. It’s good to know that, as a manufacturer, we are constantly working to improve materials and comfort. We have now taken a major step forward with CONTACT INDIVIDUAL BIO. We have enhanced the Vitafilcon B material and can now offer you the new Vitafilcon C, which meets UV protection class 1! This is good news for you and your customers.

For a small additional charge, you can now also get CONTACT INDIVIDUAL BIO as BIO UV, made from Vitafilcon C.
